Let,

m, w and d be the present age of man, wife and daughter respectively.

Man is 5 years elder to his wife.

m=w+5 ———(1)

Wife is now three times the age of their daughter

w=3d ————(2)

Daughter's age is 10 years

d=10 ————(3)

From equation (1), (2) and (3),

w=3x10 = 30

m=30+5 =35

Thus, man is at the age of 35 now.

His daughter’s age is 10. i.e. she was born 10 years back.

At that time, the age of man = 35–10 =25

Ans: The daughter was born when the age of the man was 25 years.
