When FeSO4.7H2O is heated, it loses its water of crystallization, thus, causing the green color to fade away. And if it is heated even more, it decomposes to form Ferric Oxide and releases Sulphur Dioxide and Sulphur Trioxide.
FeSO4 --> Fe2O3 + SO2 + SO3
(Anhydrated) (Reddish-
brown)
Due to the formation of Ferric Oxide, it becomes brownish or Reddish- brown in colour.
