because according to electronic configuration of Fe

atomic no.of Fe=26

electronic configuration (Ar)^18 (4s)^2 (3d)^6

when two electrons loss Fe2+ form and configuration formed is(3d)^6 and if three electrons loss configuration formed is (3d)^5which is half filled extra stable configuration

therefore Fe2+ is less stable than Fe3+
