Advancing monsoon: (features)

a. They cause bulk of rainfall from south west monsoon, as these winds blow over warm oceans , they carry abundant moisture with them and causes rainfall in the sub continent.

b. June to September is the period associated with advancing monsoon.

c. Advancing monsoon is associated with the breaks in monsoon due to temperature variation and pressure gradient.

Retreating monsoon:(features)

a. After September, the low pressure trough begins to get weaker and is replaced by high pressure.

b. October to November is the period associated with retreating monsoon

c. Retreating monsoon is associated with the occurance of cyclones originating from Andaman sea.
