salient features of federal division of powers are -

1. In federal system power is distributed vertically , it reduces from upper level to lower level ,hence called vertical distribution of powers.

2.Union government is at the highest level, then comes state government and then local government (Panchayat and municipality).

3.Each level works according to their list , i.e. union list, state list and concurrent list.

4.It is followed in most of the democracies.

5.There are two or more than two levels of government in federal system.

6.Courts have power to interpret the Constitution and the powers of different levels of government.
