Heya friend!!
Rajdeep here...

Your question is very nice and meaningful;
Thanks for asking such question...

Do you know, that sulphuric acid is known as Oil of Vitriol?
Why???
Because in the early days, sulphuric acid was prepared by heating ferrous sulphate crystals. The acid formed was viscous.

Again, when acid comes in contact with water, an exothermic reaction take place, huge amount of heat is evolved, which may turn the water into steam. As the steam will evaporate and come out, it will contain acid with it, thus it may cause acid burns. Moreover, the test tube made up of glass may crack.

Hence, the tube on which you heat FeSO4 crystals should be dry.

Hope my answer is satisfactory...
Thanks!

Ferrous sulphate crystals release molecules of water of crystallisation and there are small water droplets on the colder surface of water.

This can be proven only if the test-tube is dry.

Hope it helped.....
