Fertilizer use is expensive and can harm the environment if not use properly. Therefore, before adding fertilizer, farmers sent some soil to a laboratory for baseline testing. By testing their soil, farmers know which nutrients and how much to apply to the soil.

If too little is added the crops would not produce more as expected, if too much is added to the crops, it would pollute the ground water and the soil and pollute streams.

That's why farmers are advised to not to add much fertilizers to crop.
