Answer: (c) 3

Step-by-step explanation:

  • IF there are 3 benches then as per the statement,
  • 'if each child sits alone on a bench, there is one child left standing'      therefore we can say total number of children's,

                     = 3( each child in a   benches )+ 1( child left standing )

                     =4

  • As per the statement,

'if two children occupy each bench, one bench remains empty'

we can say that, no: benches = 3

(2of each bench then 4 children's occupy 2 benches and one left empty)

∴ no: children's and benches are 4 and 3 respectively.
