few drops of liquid 'x' are added to distilled water. It was observed that the pH of the water decreased. What could be the liquid sample 'x'

It is an acid becouse distilled water has pH Value 7 and it decrease that mean pH go down from 7 that's why it is acid

The liquid sample X could be an acid, i.e. a liquid containing hydronium ion concentration. For eg: HCl, H2SO4 etc.
