If test tube B comprises of base, it will definitely change to base after addition of drops of phenolphthalein.

The reaction between a strong base and phenolphthalein is always remarkable.

Acetic acid is a weak acid.

The following changes will occur when a few drops of acetic acid are added to the given solutions:

Phenolphthalein remains colorless because acetic acid shows a change of colour in the base substances.

 • Acidic acid will dissolve in water.

 • Acidic acid will turn in pale orange colour.
