The chalcolithic culture in the central India and Deccan were first brought to light by Sankalia's excavations at Jorwe [ distt.Ahmadnagar ,Maharashtra] in 1950's.

M.K Dhavalikar [1988] made a detailed study of a local subsistence base and the environmental settings of the chalcolithic people of Inamgaon [Distt. Pune] the chief site of the Jorwe Culture in the Deccan.
