Given : an open square box that is divided into 6 compartments with walls  of equal height

Each of the rectangles D,E,F has twice the area of each of the squares A,B,C.

a marble is dropped into the box at random, it falls into one of the compartments.

To Find : probability that it will fall into compartment F

Solution:

Let say Area of a square = A

then Area of Each Rectangle = 2A

Area of 3 Squares A, B & C  = 3A

Area of 3 Squares  rectangles D,E,F  = 3(2A) = 6A

Total Area = 3A + 6A= 9A

Area of F  (rectangle) = 2A

probability that dropped marble will fall into compartment F = 2A/9A

= 2/9
