Answer:

Either it is ,

8 ÷ 2(1 + 3 ) = 8 ÷ 2( 4) = 8 ÷ 8= 1

Here we consider 2(2+1) as one term and carryout our calculation.

Or

8 ÷ 2( 1 + 3 ) =( 8/2 ) × 4 = 16

Here we follow BODMAS stepwise, first division then multiplication and then addition.

Calculator gives the second answer (except scientific calculators)

So it's a debatable question. Whenever we choose any one answer, whether it is correct or wrong is dependent on the thinking of the person who corrects it.

But my answer is always 1, because we cannot solve algebraic expressions with second method.

For eg. 2 ÷ 4 ( 3 + 2 )

= 2 / ( 4 ( 3 + 2 ) )This step is given in Math book of 8th std. So if this is correct then, we must say 1 is the answer.
