We can write 999 as 1000-1.
So, (1000-1)(1000-1) = (1000-1)^2
It is (a-b) ^2 = a^2 - 2ab + b^2
a = 1000
b = -1
= (1000)^2 - 2(1000)(-1) + (-1)^2
=1000000 - 2000 + 1
=998000+1
=998001
So, (1000-1)(1000-1) = (1000-1)^2
It is (a-b) ^2 = a^2 - 2ab + b^2
a = 1000
b = -1
= (1000)^2 - 2(1000)(-1) + (-1)^2
=1000000 - 2000 + 1
=998000+1
=998001
