Answer:

x = 3 , y = 10

Step-by-step explanation:

let the numerator be x

and the denominator be y.

ATQ.

If 2 is added to the numerator,then.

( x + 2)/ y = 1/2

2 × (x + 2) = 1 × y

2x + 4 = y

2x - y = - 4. (1)

when 1 is subtracted from denominator.

x/y-1 = 1/3

3 × x = 1 × (y-1)

3x = y - 1

3x - y= -1. (2)

To eliminate y , subtract equation (1) and (2).

2x - y = -4

3x - y = -1

__________

-x = -3

___________

- x = -3

x = 3

2x - y = -4

2 × 3 - y = -4

6 - y = -4

- y = -4 -6

-y = -10

y = 10
