Given, a = 40, b = 88.

We know that Arithmetic Mean between two numbers is d = (b - a)/(n + 1)

⇒ d = (88 - 40)/(2 + 1)

       = 48/3

       = 16.

Now,

⇒ A1 = a + d

        = 40 + 16

        = 56.

⇒ A2 = a + 2d

          = 40 + 2(16)

          = 40 + 32.

          = 72.

Therefore, AM of two numbers is 56 and 72.

(or)

We know that arithmetic mean of two numbers is (a + b)/2

⇒ (40 + 88)/2

⇒ 128/2

⇒ 64.

Therefore, the arithmetic mean is 64.

Hope this helps!
