Answer:

Let the numbers be x,y

∴ xy = -1500

∴ x + y = -20

= x = -20 - y = -( 20+ y)

Substituting x = -(20+y) in xy= -1500

= (20 + y)(y) = 1500

= y²+ 20y -1500 = 0

∴ (y - 30)(y + 50) = 0

∴ y = 30, - 50

If y =30

∴ x = - ( 20+30)

∴ x = -50

If y = -50

∴ x = - ( 20 - 50)

∴ x = 30

∴ TWO NUMBERS ARE 30 , -50

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

LET THE TWO UNKNOWN NUMBERS BE X,Y

PRODUCT = -1500

SUM = -20

GIVEN:

X+Y = - 20...............(1)

X*Y = -1500...........(2)

FROM (2)

X = -15000/Y...............(3)

SUBSTITUTING IN(1)

-1500/Y +Y = -20

-1500+Y² = -20 Y

Y²+20 Y -1500 = 0

Y²-30 Y +50 Y -1500 =0

Y (Y -30) +50 (Y-30) =0

(Y-30)(Y+50) =0

Y = +30 OR Y = -50

WHEN Y = +30 X = -50

WHEN Y = -50 X= +30.

THEREFORE THE NUMBERS ARE : +30 AND -50.

HOPE THIS HELPS.
