solution;

Let the positive number be x.

Given that A number when increased by 17 is equal to 60 times the reciprocal of the number.

=  x + 17 = (60/x).

=  x(x + 17) = 60

= x^2 + 17x = 60

=  x^2 + 17x - 60 = 0

=  x^2 - 3x + 20x - 60 = 0

=  x(x - 3) + 20(x - 3) = 0

=  (x - 3)(x + 20) = 0

= x = 3, -20[Neglect negative values]

=  x = 3.

Therefore, the positive number is 3.

Hope this helps!
