Given:

Angle of refraction = 30°

Refractive index = 1.5

To Find: Angle of Incidence

Calculation:

  • Refractive index of any medium is defined as ratio of speed of light in vacuum to the speed of light in that particular medium.
  • μ = \frac{c}{v}
  • Refractive index gives the degree of change in direction of light wave or the degree of bending of light ray when it travels from one medium to another.
  • Bending in light ray is observed due to difference in densities of medium.
  • Also refractive index is given as ratio of sine value of angle of incidence to the sine value of angle of refraction.
  • μ = \frac{sin i}{sin 30}

sin i = 1.5 * 0.5

sin i = 0.75

i = 48.590

Answer:

Angle of incidence = 48.590°
