Answer:

answer is 16g

Explanation:

molar mass of CH4 is 16g

molar mass of HCL is 36. 5g

By the law of equivalence,

no. of g equivalent of CH4 = no. of g equivalent of HCl

no. of g equivalent = weight/equivalent weight

Given : molar mass CH4 = 16 g , Cl2 = 71g .

Find: equivalent mass of CH4 in the given reaction.

Solution :

  • First, let see the equation i.e

1CH4 + 4HCl → 1CCl4 + 4HCl

  • So, by the law of equivalence, we can say that the no. of g equivalent weight of CH4 is equal to the no. of g equivalent weight of HCl.

  • Law of equivalence states that in any chemical reaction the equivalents of all the reactants and products must be same.

  • As , we know that the formula of no. g equivalent i.e no. of Equivalent = given weight / equivalent weight.

  • No. of Eq. of CH4 = No. of Eq. of HCL

=> molar mass of CH4 = molar mass of HCL

eq. wt. of CH4 eq. wt. of HCL

=> 16 / eq. wt. of CH4 = 36.5 / 36.5

=> eq. wt. of CH4 = 16 g.

  • So , the eq. wt. of CH4 is 16 g . And the correct answer is d) 16 g.
