If 2 is the root of p(x) = kx^2 -14x +8 =2

Then if we put x=2 the equation will be equal to zero.

kx-14x+8=0

k(2)-14(2)+8=0

4k -28+8 =0

4k -20 = 0

4k = 20

k = 5

 \huge \text{k = 5}
