Solution

Given :-

  • Equation, 2x² + kx + 3 = 0 ------(1)
  • Roots are equal of this equation

Find :-

  • Value of k

Explanation

Important Formula

Sum of zeroes = -b/a

Product of zeroes = c/a

Where,

  • a = Coefficient of x²
  • b = Coefficient of x
  • c = Constant part

Let, P & q are zeroes of this equation,

So, A/C to question,

  • p = q ---------(2)

==> Sum of zeroes = -k/2

==> p + q = -k/2

By, equ(2)

==> p . p = -k/2

==> p² = -k/2 ----------(3)

And,

==> Product of zeroes = 3/2

==> p . q = 3/2

Keep Value by equ(2)

==> p . p = 3/2

==> p² = 3/2 -----------(4)

Equate equ(3) & equ(4)

==> -k/2 = 3/2

==> -k = 3 * 2/2

==> -k = 3

==> k = -3

_______________________

Hence

  • Value of k = -3
