Step-by-step explanation:

k=-2 ........... is the answer

x-1 is factor of polynomial so x=1 will satisfy the equation

P(1)=0

1³+3×1²+5k+6=0

Answer:

f(x) = x^3+3x^2+5k+6 ( ^ stands for raise to the power)

g(x) = x-1

Its given in the question that g(x) is a factor of P(x)

So therefore, x-1 = 0

x = 1

Putting the value in p(x)

P(1) = 1^3 + 3 (1) ^2 + 5k + 6

Now simplifying the equation

p(1) = 1 + 3 +5k +6 = 0

p(1) = 10 + 5k = 0

p(1) = 10 = - 5k

k = -2

So therefore the value of k = -2
