So, we are provided with the passage from which we have to find out the words which has equal meaning as the words mentioned below.

The answer is " very fond of "

Very fond of is basically used to show that he/she like that thing very much. And as from the opening line you find out that the boy (author) likes old soldier very much. So, that's why it is the answer.

The answer is ' again and again '

Again and again basically means you are doing that thing or work repeatedly.

As we seen in the middle of the passage , the author (boy) said that the old soldier used to tell him again and again (that means repeatedly) that how he walked two hundred miles in two weeks.
