Ahimsa silk is also known as peace silk. It is a type of silk which is made in a way which is more gentle to the creatures creating the silk.
Kusuma Rajaiah, a government officer from Andhra Pradesh, wanted to make silk following the Ahimsa way of life. So he tried to make silk without killing the creatures that created it. Traditionally the cocoons of the silkworms were boiled and then the threads were separated. But in Rajaiah's method the worms are allowed to hatch and the vacant cocoons are used or the cocoon is cut open. His method has been adopted since 1990 and is supported by the people who are interested in the welfare and rights of animals and non humans.
