Balkans referred to the cluster of countries that lay in the Eastern Europe i.e. between the Austrian-Hungary and Ottoman Empires.

They were politically disruptive nations, always involved in conflicts.

They balanced the hotbed of intrigues, international wailing and nationalism by two Balkan Wars in 1912, and 1913.

On June 28, 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the heir belonging to the Austro- Hungarian Empire was killed in Sarajeevo.

This incident became the immediate cause of The First World War.
