Mg = 45 g
O₂ = 15 g
Explanation:
molar mass of Mg = 24 molar mass of O₂ = 16
Reaction:
2Mg + O₂ → 2MgO
2 moles Mg and 1 mole of oxygen is required for 2 moles of MgO
2 moles of Mg = 2 × 24 = 48 g
2MgO = 2 × 24 + 16
= 48 + 16
= 64
48 g gives 64 g of MgO
x g will give 60 g of MgO
x = 60 × 48/64
= 45 g of Mg
60-45 = 15 g
and 15 g of O₂.
