Answer:
The production and distribution of drinking water in the Delhi NCR region is the responsibility of the government body called, Delhi Jal Board (DJB). According to the govt sources, DJB have covered 82% of the households of Delhi, through piped water supply and ensures 50 gallons per capita per day of filtered water. Water is supplied to about 18 million people in Delhi, over wide spread interconnected system of pipes and reservoirs.
This water comes from various sources, of which the major contributions come from the following sources: Ganga river, Yamuna river, Bhakra storage and groundwater. It is important to note, that the water treatment and supply capacity, was increased considerably in the past years. Along with the above-mentioned natural resources, there are about 14 water treatment plant in Delhi and Dwarka region, catering to the demands of drinking water.
In the coming years, it is also proposed to create various dams like Renuka Dam on River Giri; Kishau Dam on River Tons; Lakhwar Vyasi Dam on Yamuna river.
