Biodegradable substances:

Biodegradable substances are those substances that decompose naturally in the environment and don’t possess harm to the environment. Examples of Biodegradable substances are: Dead plants and animals, animal waste, flower, vegetables, fruits, paper etc.

They exhibit a high rate of decomposition. Natural decomposing agents such as bacteria and fungi help in their decomposition.

Non-biodegradable substances:

Non-biodegradable substances are those substances that do not decomposes naturally in the environment and causes pollution and other harm to the environment.

Non-biodegradable substances include chemicals, paint, plastic, rubber, metals etc. They have a slow rate of decomposition. They are not decomposed by natural decomposing agents.

Biodegradable materials are better to use than non-biodegradable materials because they are easily degraded and after decomposition, they can be used to produce manure, biogas, fertilizers, compost etc. So, they don't harm the environment. On the contrary, non-biodegradable materials do not degrade easily and their recycling is also difficult and expensive, thus they cause harm to the environment.
