India is strangely a land with as much inequity as inequality.

Inequity is the differences coming out of inappropriate governance, corruption or cultural exclusion.

Inequality refers to uneven distribution of resources and services owing to many reasons including lack of the same.

Both are entirely different and not interchangeable.

At present, addressing inequity has become an eyewash. Rather inequality is being promoted knowingly and unknowingly. Very soon, state-sponsored or politically motivated promotion of inequality will lead to another Frankenstein.

Here are the existing inequalities now:

Educated, liberal, ideological or indifferent, almost all citizens have become discriminatory in their thought. Discrimination gives birth to inequality. Thanks to the Indian style of populism politics and the polarized traditional media establishments.Political parties are now winning or losing elections owing to ability or inability to engineer around voters demographics. People are highly conditioned and irrational in who they hate and who they follow blindly. The rural voters living in interdependent communities look more sane.We the people have been so much conditioned that people deliberately look at the caste of a victim or the religion of an accused while reading a piece of news. The reactions, predictably, is selective and discriminatory.Almost everywhere, someone’s look, attire, accessories, material possessions etc. defines how a person has to be treated or responded to.If you are somehow visible in the public through mass media even by committing a crime or cooking a controversy, you are a ‘celebrity’! Then you are treated and supported as if you are more than equal, even to the God.Law and even basic rights treat citizens differently. The rich, famous and powerful are not only revered but also feared by the systems. Simply put, if you are poor or from the working class all the laws of the land will apply on you. If you are from up above, anyone complaining against you can be reprimanded or even punished for ‘tarnishing the image of a public figure’.

How to tackle the inequality:

I have gained from this remedy.

Read newspapers, if you must, that gives ample space to opposing views. There aren’t plain news now, these are views.Avoid watching news channels, sorry guys, both English and Hindi. Many state level regional language channels are impartial and exemplary though.Stay safe from platforms like Facebook and Whatsapp. Your brain could be hacked irreparably.Get out of your phone, pull out the ear plugs and find time to talk to people, just anyone - known ones or strangers. Spend time with pets, animals whenever possible.Never miss a chance to visit older areas in your city, old-timers in your village or rural areas anywhere in India. One can regain faith in living a human’s life.Be ashamed, really ashamed of being rude to a stranger, not helping someone you don’t know or not being grateful for small help you received from someone known or unknown.Never be shy to idle away thinking sometime. Be yourself staring at the sky, watching birds and enjoying the swaying leaves in the wind.
