For us to get relative error, we must first get the absolute error.

Since the measurement is to one decimal point that is 0.1,the error is :

0.1 / 2 = 0.05

Relative error = absolute error / measured value

Relative error = 0.05 / 8.6 = 0.0058139534

Thus equals to:

0.00581395 to six significant figures.
