find the altitude of an equilateral triangle of side 8cm

8²=4²+h²

then h²=64-16=48

...h=√48=4√3 cm
or
4×1.732 =6.93cm

side = 8cm

draw a equilateral triangle ABC and draw it it's altitude AD on BC

however the altitude divides the side into two then DC = BD = 4cm


by applying Pythagoras theorem in∆ ADC

AC² = DC² + AD²

then

AD² = 8² - 4²
AD² = 64 -16
AD = √(48)
AD = 4√3cm
