Answer:

86.5

Step-by-step explanation:

let the the figure be named as ABCDE

SIDE AB = 16 , BC = 13 , CD = 2.5 , DE =5 , AE = ?

CONSTRUCTION : Draws perpendicular EJ from E to BC. ALSO EXTEND E TO AB AND NAME ITS INTERSECTION AS K.

SO BC = BJ + JC

13 = 8 + 5

SINCE EJCD IS A RECATNGLE , AREA OF RECTANGE EJCD IS GIVEN BY = 2.5 ×5 = 12.5

NOW , IN TRIANGLE AKE

BASE KE = BJ = 8

HEIGHT AK = 16-2.5 = 13.5

AREA OF TRIAGNLE IS = 1/2 × BASE × HEIGHT

= 54

NOW AREA OF RECATNGLE KBJE = BASE × HEIGHT = 2.5 × 8h = 20

AREA OF FIGURE = AREA OF RECTANGLE KBJE + AREA OF TRIAGNLE AKE + AREA OF RECTANGLE EJCD = 20 + 54 + 12.5 = 86.5
