Answer:

area \: of \: an \: isosceles \: triangle =  \frac{1}{2} \times b \times h

b = x

h = y

 =  \frac{1}{2}  \times x \times y \\ multiply \: by \: 2

 = 1 \times 2x \times 2y

 = 2(x + y)

area \: of \: isosceles \: triangle = 2(x + y)
