Concept Introduction

Because of this, an isosceles triangle has two equal sides and two equal angles. Greek words iso (same) and skelos are where the name originates (leg). An equilateral triangle is one with all three sides equal, whereas a scalene triangle is one with no equal sides.

Given

Isosceles triangle whose side is 7 cm and base is 5 cm.

To Find

We have to find the area of the isosceles triangle.

Solution

According to the problem,

Area of isosceles triangle is = \frac{1}{2} *\frac{b}{2} *\sqrt{s^{2}+(b/2)^{2}  } =\frac{b}{8} *\sqrt{4s^{2}+b^{2}  }

=\frac{5}{8} *\sqrt{196+25} \frac{5*11}{8} =6.875cm^{2}

Hence, Area of the isosceles triangle is 6.875cm^{2}
