Length and breadth are roots of x² - 5x + 6 = 0

=> Area is the product of the roots of x² - 5x + 6 = 0

=> Area = 6

This is a general principle.

Given a quadratic ax² + bx + c,

the sum of the roots is -b/a and the product of the roots is c/a.

To see why, notice that if p and q are the roots, then

ax² + bx + c = a ( x - p ) ( x - q ).

x² + 5x + 6 = 0

x² + 2x + 3x + 6 = 0

x (x +2) + 3(x + 2) = 0

so

( x + 2 ) , ( x+3)

x= -2 ,x= -3
