Side of Squrae is given by = 4r

= 4 × 1 = 4cm

Hence Are of square = side × side

= 4 × 4 = 16cm^2

Now Are of 4 circles is given by

4 \times \pi \: r {}^{2}

4 × 22/7 × 1 × 1

88/7

12.57cm^2

Area of shaded region = square area - circles area

=
16cm {}^{2}  - 12.57cm {}^{2}

 = 3.43cm {}^{2}
