Question:

Find the area of the shaded traingle, if the side of each small square is 1 cm ?

Answer:

For the rectangle,

Length = 6cm

Breadth = 2cm

Area = L x B

= 6cm x 2cm = 12cm^2

For the larger unshaded ∆,

Base = 4cm

Height = 2cm

Area = 1/2 x base x height = 1/2 x 4cm x 2cm = 4cm^2

For the smaller unshaded ,

Base = 2cm

Height = 2cm

Area = 1/2 x base x height

= 1/2 x 2cm x 2cm = 2cm^2

Therefore,

Area of shaded

= Area of rectangle - ( Area of the two unshaded s)

= 12cm^2 - (4cm^2 + 2cm^2 )

= 12cm^2 - 6cm^2

= 6cm^2
