Step-by-step explanation:

Given find the area of the trapezium whose parallel sides are 12 cm and 22 CM respectively and non-parallel sides are 6 cm and 8 cm

  • Now from the parallelogram ABPQ we have
  • AD = BP = 6 cm
  • AB = DP = 12 cm
  • Now PC = DC – DP
  •              = 22 – 12
  • Or PC = 10 cm
  • From triangle PBC,
  • S = a + b + c / 2
  •   = 8 + 10 + 6 / 2
  •  = 24 / 2
  • Or s = 12 cm
  • Area of triangle PBC = √s(s – a)(s – b) (s – c)
  •                                     = √12(12 – 8)(12 – 10)(12 – 6)
  •                                   = √12 x 4 x 2 x 6
  •                                    = 24 sq cm
  • Now area of triangle = ½ x b x h
  •                                     = ½ x PC x h
  •                24 = ½ x 10 x h
  • Or 5h = 24
  • Or h = 4.8 cm
  • Now Area of trapezium = ½ x (AB + DC) x h
  •                                          = ½ (12 + 22)4.8
  •                                          = ½ (34) x 4.8
  •                                         = 81.6 sq cm
