Answer: 36 cm^2

The trapezium represented as ABCD had two parts:

(i) BCE which is a triangle and

(ii) ADCE which is a rectangle

The area of the trapezium ABCD = Area of triangle BCE + Area of rectangle ADCE

(i) Triangle BCE

We know that the area of a triangle = (1/2) × base × height

Given, base = 8 cm and height = 3 cm

Thus, the area of triangle BCE = (1/2) × 8 × 3 = 12 cm^2

(ii) Rectangle ADCE

Area of a rectangle = length × breadth

Given, length = 8 cm and breadth = 3 cm

Thus, the area of rectangle ADCE = 8 × 3 = 24 cm^2

(iii) Trapezium ABCD

Finally, the area of trapezium ABCD = Area of triangle BCE + Area of rectangle ADCE

= 12 + 24 = 36 cm^2
