FORMULA :

If (a,b), (c,d) and (e,f) be the vertices of the triangle, the area of the triangle be

= 1/2 | c d 1 | square units.
......... | e f 1 |

SOLUTION :

The given points are (2,0), (6,0) and (4,6).

So, the area of the triangle ABC is

......... | 2 0 1 |
= 1/2 | 6 0 1 |
......... | 4 6 1 |

= 1/2 [ 6(6 - 2) ], expanding along the 2nd column and taking the positive value.

= 1/2 ( 6 × 4 )

= 12 square units.
