The area of the triangle is 12 cm^2

By using they Pythagorean theorem, we can find the height of the triangle.

The hypotenuse of the triangle is 5 and a side if 4. Through the Pythagorean theorem, we can solve for the other side.

 b=\sqrt{c^2-a^2}

Now we can substitute in the values to solve this.

 \sqrt{5^2-4^2} = b

This simplifies to  \sqrt{9} = b

so b = 3

The formula for the area of a triangle is  \frac{Base*Height}{x}

So now we can input our know values for this formula

 \frac{8*3}{2}

this simplifies down to 12 cm^2
