Answer:

Dimensions of closed rectangular cistern = 6m × 2.5m × 1.4m

∴ Capacity of tank = volume of tank = (l × b × h) = 6 × 2.5 x1.4 = 21 m3

Area of iron sheet required to make the tank = 2(lb + bh + hl) = 2(6× 2.5+ 2.5× 1.4 + 1.4 × 6)=2( 15 +3.5+ 8.4)= 2 × 26.9 = 53.8m2

Let the units be in cm

Given

Length (L) = 6 cm

Breadth (B) = 2.5 cm

Depth (D or H) = 1.4 cm

Capacity = Length (L) × Breadth (B) × Depth (D or H)

capacity = 6 cm × 2.5 cm × 1.4 cm

capacity = 21 cm³

Area of iron sheet = 2 (Length × Breadth + Breadth × Depth + Depth × Length)

Area of iron sheet = 2 (6 cm × 2.5 cm + 2.5 cm × 1.4 cm + 1.4 cm × 6 cm)

Area of iron sheet = 2 (15 cm² + 3.5 cm² + 8.4 cm²)

Area of iron sheet = 2 (26.9 cm²)

Area of iron sheet = 53.8 cm²

Capacity = 21 cm³

Area of iron sheet = 53.8 cm²
