To arrive at the coordinates of midpoint, let us consider the coordinates of the midpoint to be P(x,y).

Let the line segment be AB where coordinates of A and B are A(x1, y1) and B(x2, y2) respectively.

Now, the midpoint P will divide the line segment AB into two equal halves AP and BP i.e divides them in the ratio of 1:1

Therefore applying the mid point theorem of coordinate geometry, the coordinates of P are as follows:-

x =  \frac{x1 + x2}{1 + 1}  = \frac{x1 + x2}{2}

y =  \frac{y1 + y2}{1 + 1}  =  \frac{y1 + y2}{2}

P{(x1+x2)/2 , (y1+y2)/2}
