SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

The coordinates of the point

(a) which lies on both x-axis & y-axis.

(b) whose abscissa is - 6 and lies on x-axis.

(c) whose ordinate -8 and lies on y axis.

EVALUATION

(a) Here we have to find the point which lies on both x-axis & y-axis.

Since the point is on x axis

∴ ordinate of the point = 0

Again the point lies on y axis

∴ Abscissa of the point = 0

∴ The coordinates of the point = (0,0)

(b) Here we have to find the point whose abscissa is - 6 and lies on x-axis.

Since the point is on x axis

∴ ordinate of the point = 0

Again Abscissa of the point = - 6

∴ The coordinates of the point = ( - 6 ,0)

(c) Here we have to find the point whose ordinate -8 and lies on y axis.

Since the point is on y axis

∴ Abscissa of the point = 0

Again ordinate of the point = - 8

∴ The coordinates of the point = (0, - 8 )
