Find the cost of fencing a rectangular park of lenght 250 m and breadth 150 m at the rate ₹ 18 per meter.
[Clue - answer is ₹ 7200]

Fencing is done at the perimeter so, perimeter of rectangular park=2(l+b)=2(150+250)

⇒2×400=800m

Rate of fencing per meter=Rs. 18

∴ Rate of fencing 800 m =Rs.18×800

=Rs.14400

since it is said "fencing" therefore we know we have to find perimeter

therefore formula of perimeter of rectangular park = 2 X (l + b) or (2 X l) + (2 X b) [both are correct]

= 2 X (250 m + 150 m)

= 2 X 400 m

= 800 m

therefore 800 m needs to be fenced

since cost of 1 m = Rs 18

therefore cost of 800 m = Rs 18 X 800 m

= Rs 14,400

now this will be the cost if we multiply the length and breadth by 2 i.e 2 X l + 2 X b

but they have asked to find cost of only the length + breadth i.e 1 X l + 1 X b

therefore whatever answer we got, we need to divide it by 2

therefore it will be Rs 14400 ÷ 2

therefore your answer is Rs 7200
