We have to find the current drawn from the battery by a network of four resistors shown in figure.

given, potential difference across system of resistors , ∆V = 3 V

From Ohm's law, i = V/R

∴ we need resistance to find the current, don't we ?

let's find the equivalent resistance.

three resistors of same resistance 10Ω are joined in series combination.

so, equivalent of these three resistors, R = R₁ + R₂ + R₃ [ for series combination]

= 10Ω + 10Ω + 10Ω

= 30Ω

now, equivalent resistance of three resistors, R = 30Ω and 10Ω are in parallel combination.

so, Req = RR₄/(R + R₄) [ for parallel combination ]

= 30 × 10 Ω/(30 + 10)

= 30/4 Ω

now current drawn from the battery , i = 3/(30/4)

= 0.4 A

Therefore the current drawn from the battery by the network of four resistors is 0.4 A
