Given :

  • Measure of each side of a square is 16 cm

To find :

  • The diagonal of the given square

Solution :

The relation between measure of side and the measure of diagonal of a square is given by ,

 \boxed {\rm{diagonal \: of \: square =  \sqrt{2} \times side \: of \: the \: square }}

We have ,

  • Measure of the side of the square as 16 cm

By substituting the value we get ,

 :  \implies \rm \: diagonal \: of \: the \:  square =  \sqrt{2}  \times 16 \: cm \\  \\   : \implies \rm \: diagonal \: of  \: the\: square = 16 \sqrt{2}  \: cm \\  \\  :  \implies \rm \: diagonal \: of \: the \: square \:  = 16 \times 1.414 \: cm \\  \\   : \implies \rm \:  diagonal \: of \: the \: square = 22.62 \: cm

Hence , The measure of the diagonal of the square whose side measures 16 cm is 16\sf{\sqrt{2}} cm (or) 22.62 cm

Note :

  • The value of \sf{\sqrt{2}} is taken as 1.414
