Let AB be the chord 24 cm long, O be the centre of the circle . OP perpendicular to AB at P. OA is a radius.

AP = 1/2 of AB= 12cm (perpendicular drawn from the centre of a circle to a chord bisects the chord.

OP = 5cm

Using Pythagoras theorem

OA^2 = OP^2+AP^2=5^2+12^2=25+144=169

OA=13cm

So, diameter = 2x13cm=26cm Ans.
