I think you got the question wrong as it is x^2+2x+1/x^2-8x+12
THEREFORE
doing the numerator as [(x+y)^2=x^2+xy+y^2]
we have numerator=(x+1)^2
AND NOW
doing denominator by middle term splitting
we have,
x^2-6x-2x+12 =0
=x(x-2) - 6(x-2)=0
=(x-6) (x-2) =0
=> x=6 or x=2
THEREFORE
domain ={2,6}
